Summary after tonight’s goal party in Karlstad

Here you can read a summary of what happened in Karlstad this goal-rich evening where the Redhawks were finally able to pack the bus with three points!

First period
Early in the match, an unfortunate Oliver Lauridsen could see his clearance pass the plexiglass, which resulted in a puckout. However, he was all the happier when, just over two minutes later, on a pass from Lance Bouma, he popped the puck into Matt Tomkin’s right cross with a distinctive finish.

Färjestad then got the chance again in the power play after Oliver Lauridsen interfered with Eric Engstrand. This time, however, Malmö’s box play could not hold out and the home team’s Axel Bergkvist was able to equalize behind an obscured Adam Werner.

But Malmö would still regain the lead during this period. This time it was Carl-Johan Lerby who, in a pending expulsion, nicely body feints away a green-clad player before he spot-kicked in 2-1.

Second period
The second period barely started before Markus Lauridsen continued something of the “backers’ night” by threading the puck between the legs of Tomkins in a free position on a nice pass by Carl Persson.

Joel Nyström then reduces to 2-3 through a fine solo performance. Shortly afterwards, Färjestad was also able to equalize at 3-3 on a pending expulsion.

The goal celebration continues with Carl Söderberg scoring a lead for Malmö with a quick wrist shot in the slot. By then, Malmö had scored 4 goals in 10 shots. However, the joy was short-lived when Färjestad’s Axel Bergkvist equalized to 4-4 a couple of minutes later with his second goal of the evening. Färjestad gets a number of open positions at the end but Adam Werner stands on the podium and the match is 4-4 before the third.

Third period
The fast-paced hockey then continues in the third period where Malmö’s Carl Söderberg shoots a clean shot into the post with about 10 minutes left in the third. However, Malmö’s breakthrough would come through two quick goals from the Lauridsen brothers. With seven minutes left in the period, Oliver Lauridsen cautiously comes forward and pinpoints his second goal of the evening. Just twenty seconds later, brother Markus was able to score 6-4 with his second goal of the evening.

The goal celebration was completed with an empty net goal by Lance Bouma and the final score was 7-4 for Malmö Redhawks.
