Sultans of the Net, who made our country proud at the 2024 Paris Olympics, could not face Italy in the semi-final and missed out on advancing to the final with a 3-0 loss.

Our national team, who started the first set effectively but could not finish it, fell behind 1-0 with a score of 25-22. Italy did not relinquish its superiority in the second set and took the score to 2-0 with a 25-19 victory. Sultans of the Net, who put pressure on the third set, lost 25-22 when they lost the victory in the last points of the set they were leading, and lost their ticket to the final to Italy by losing 3-0 on aggregate in the sets.

Our national team will face Brazil for the bronze medal on Saturday 10th August. Italy, who reached the final for the first time in its history, will fight for the championship against the USA on Sunday, August 11.

At the start of the game, both teams kept the balance by scoring each other’s points and the first minutes were tied 5-5. The national team increased the difference to 4 points (9-5) with the points of Eda Erdem Dündar, Elif Şahin and Zehra Güneş, and made the Italian head coach Julio Velasco rest. Italy increased its efficiency in attack and leveled the score at 14-14 in the middle of the set. Coming from behind and leading 18-16, Italy forced National Women’s Volleyball Team Head Coach Daniele Santarelli to call a timeout. Against Italy, which increased the difference to 4 points (17-21), the national team reduced the difference to 1 point (20-21) with the points of Melissa Vargas and the blocks of Zehra Güneş. However, Italy did not let the gap close by playing well at the end of the set and won the first set 25-22.

Responding to Italy, who started the second set with a 2-0 streak, with points from Melissa Vargas and Ebrar Karakurt, the Crescent-Stars team took the lead 3-2. While the game continued with points to each other in those minutes, the beginning of the set was tied at 8-8. While the middle of the set was tied at 13-13, the national team took the lead 15-13 with points from Hande Baladın and Zehra Güneş. Then, by scoring 4 points in a row, Italy first equalized and then took a 2 point lead (15-17), forcing Daniele Santarelli to take a timeout. Continuing the good play, Italy made fewer mistakes at the end of the set and won the second set 25-19.

The national team made a good start to the third set, leading 6-3 and Italy’s head coach Julio Velasco had to take time out. Leading 12-9 midway through the set, the Stars and Crescents forced Velasco to take his second. The national team, which came to the 20s with a 2-point advantage (20-18), could not maintain this advantage. Italy, who came from behind and took the lead and continued to play effectively, won the third set 25-22 and the match 3-0, becoming the USA’s opponent in the final to be played on 11th August.
