Suicide of Professor B: Court Demands Recognition of Attributability and Exposes “Deleterious” Management at AP-HP

The court asked “the president of the Sorbonne Paris-Nord University to issue an order recognizing the attributability to the department of the suicide of Professor B.”, according to this decision of July 18. No appeal having been made within two months by the parties, the court’s decision is made final.

“Deleterious” management

The professor, responsible for the bariatric surgery activity (obesity surgery) of Assistance publique – Hôpitaux de Paris (AP-HP) in Seine-Saint-Denis, committed suicide on Sunday February 3, 2019 by defenestrating from his hospital office.

He had put on his working medical coat as well as his operating room shoes before killing himself, according to the investigation which revealed that he had asked to leave his service after “deleterious” management following the merger of different services. The professor also had a tumor and had to undergo a chemotherapy session.
