“Suicide is a lack of internal freedom, which is trapped in the framework of society” – “Lampa” talks about the high number of suicides among young people in Latvia

Less than in the 1990s, but there are still a lot of suicides in Latvia and our country is among the European countries that still have a large number of suicides – last year more than 400, reports TV3 News, presenting one of the themes of the festival “Lamp”.

In the antitope – according to the highest number of suicides in the European Union – Latvia ranks on an equal footing with Lithuania.

Inese Lapsiņa, a clinical psychologist and cognitive-behavioral therapist at the Skalbe Center, says that moral punishment is very common in these regions, denying love and attention if a person does not meet expectations. As one example, the psychologist mentioned the tension that develops at school. In an environment where a teenager often does not already have problems, there is additional parental pressure. The level of marks, which they themselves probably did not have, but the children must have.

“What would be your normal rating for your child? And when I ask what mark you accept, it turns out that it is not less than seven, ”says Lapsiņa.

The number of suicides, as well as the statistics of their attempts, is one of the difficult topics of the conversation festival “Lamp”. According to a study by Tomas Pulmanis, Vice-Dean of Riga Stradins University, as many as 8.2% of young people have tried to commit suicide.

Specialists call family members to be their own. In his teens, suicide attempts were still noticeable.

“Before the specialist there are close people. And he will probably turn to his mother or girlfriend / friend several times before he turns to a specialist, ”says Pulmanis.

Ekaterina Jeremejeva, head of the Association of Mental Health Nurses, emphasizes the need to talk to children and young people. And it helps to assess the willingness to commit suicide.

Psychiatrist Krista Bruna urges that if a young person has taken pills or otherwise attempted suicide, an ambulance should be called to take him to the hospital.

It should be noted here that in the antitope, Latvia is not only in terms of youth, but also in terms of adult suicides, and these things are related. In the opinion of psychologist Inese Ruka-Jansone, a certain regularity can be seen here. Dissatisfied parents with life and conditions will not support children. And so a vicious circle arises.

And more. Suicides are more common in countries with prejudice and extreme conservatism. About only the weak crying. But others do not have to be accepted.

Suicide is a lack of inner freedom trapped within society.
