There are two Sarco prototypes and the third is being built in the Netherlands. The third device will be ready for use in Switzerland in 2022.
The Swiss regulator conducted a legal due diligence and legalized the use of the Sarco suicide capsule. The edition writes about it Swissinfo.
The capsule was created on a 3D printer and is intended for voluntary euthanasia.
According to its developers, a person himself can activate the process of his own death. The device is quite mobile, so it can be delivered to any room.
The person voluntarily lies down inside the capsule. He is asked a series of psychological questions, and then the patient independently presses the button and activates the action of the device.
After that, the inner space of the capsule is filled with nitrogen, and the oxygen concentration rapidly decreases from 21 to 1%. In such conditions, the person feels a little disoriented and may feel mild euphoria before losing consciousness. All this will take about 30 seconds. Death occurs due to a lack of oxygen and carbon dioxide. There is no panic or choking sensation.

It is noted that about 1,300 Swiss have used assisted suicide services in 2020. Today, a solution of sodium pentobarbital is administered to patients who have agreed to euthanasia. After taking the drug, a person falls asleep for two to five minutes, then falls into a deep coma, and death soon occurs. Sarco offers a different approach to voluntary retirement without the use of controlled substances.
It was previously reported that Chile’s parliament approved euthanasia.
