Suicide bombings occurred at two mosques in Pakistan on the 29th, killing at least 57 people and injuring more than 60, Pakistani police and health authorities said.
The first terrorist attack of the day occurred near a mosque in Balochistan, southwestern Pakistan.
Local police officials said the terrorist blew himself up near the mosque where crowds had gathered to celebrate the birth of the Islamic prophet, killing 52 people and wounding at least 58 others.
Authorities said the death toll could rise further as many were seriously injured.
Local authorities reported that five people at a mosque were killed in a second suicide bombing in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province on the same day.
According to local media, the roof of the temple collapsed, trapping about 40 people in the rubble.
Reuters reported that these areas bordering Afghanistan have recently been attacked by Islamic militants seeking to overthrow the Pakistani government and establish a system advocating strict Islamic law.
No group has yet emerged claiming responsibility for this terrorist attack.
