Jakarta –
At least 25 people were killed and dozens more injured as a result of the attack suicide bomb in the southwestern province of Balochistan Pakistan on Friday (29/9). The bomb blast was triggered by a suicide bomber who targeted a memorial procession Prophet’s birthday Muhammad SAW.
“A procession of hundreds of people came out of the Medina mosque and when it reached Al Falah road, a suicide bomber targeted it,” said Abdul Razzaq Sasoli, deputy commissioner of Mastung district, quoted by the AFP news agency, Friday (29/9/2023).
“At least 25 people were killed and more than 80 people were injured – including 20 critically,” Zubair Jamali, Balochistan’s home minister, told AFP.
Jan Achakzai, Minister of Information of Balochistan appealed to the public to donate blood to help aid the injured victims.
He also announced three days of mourning.
“The attack on innocent people who came to participate in the procession… is a very heinous act,” the Interior Ministry said in a statement.
Balochistan, Pakistan’s least populous province, is also home to several militant groups fighting for independence or control of the region’s mineral resources.
The Pakistani Taliban group, which has stepped up attacks on military and government targets since the Taliban returned to power in Afghanistan in August 2021, said it had nothing to do with Friday’s Balochistan attack.
“The Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) insists it has nothing to do with this attack, and our stance on bombings in public spaces is firm,” the group said in a statement.
