On Saturday, the Pope received in audience 200 members of the association of people injured at work. It is an association created in Italy that includes carabinieri, military personnel, police officers, prison guards, firefighters who were injured or maimed in the course of their duties.

Francis admitted that he is well aware of how difficult it is to accept painful experiences, to overcome the tendency to close in on oneself, to be open, to share and to be in solidarity. But those who can do it know very well that it can open up new horizons. Difficulties and limitations remain, they do not disappear, but acquire a different meaning. It is about turning the negative into the positive, which is one of the bright aspects of the mystery of the life of Jesus Christ. “The evil that He suffered, which culminated in suffering and death on the cross, Jesus transformed into a sacrifice for our salvation,” said the Holy Father, adding that this mystery became concrete in the Eucharist.
In his short speech, the Pope also pointed out that the aforementioned association also serves the “mission of peace”, the “establishment of order”, because dealing with conflicts while avoiding aggression and oppression is not an easy everyday task. “Union can and must become a force that promotes peace in society, contributing to the peaceful resolution of conflicts, striving for the common good and paying attention to the most vulnerable people,” Francis said.
