The widely used software, sudo and su, are getting a rewrite in Rust programming language with the financial backing of Amazon Web Services. This joint project by Ferrous Systems and Tweede Golf aims to enhance Linux/open-source security by increasing memory safety. Sudo has a history of experiencing vulnerabilities related to memory safety issues due to being written in C. This critical software needs to be secured, and the team behind the project is working towards that goal. The work plan for the project is viewable on the Memory Safety Initiative website, and the GitHub repository is available for anyone to access. With the support of Amazon Web Services, this project is set to bring significant improvements to the security of Linux/open-source software.
