Sudha Murty, renowned author and philanthropist, was recently conferred with the Padma Bhushan award for her social work by President Droupadi Murmu. Her daughter, Akshata Murty, who is married to UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, attended the ceremony and expressed her “unspeakable pride” in her mother’s extraordinary journey. Ms Murty emphasised her mother’s charitable work and voluntary activities that have supported those less fortunate, including managing charitable institutions for 25 years and sponsoring various programmes to increase literacy. The UK first lady also commented that her mother’s example has put volunteering, learning, and listening at the heart of how she wishes to live. Sudha Murty’s husband and Infosys founder, NR Narayana Murthy, son Rohan Murty, and sister Dr Sunanda Kulkarni also attended the ceremony.
