– Suddenly I heard the police screaming – VG

KONGSBERG (VG) Several are injured and died after an incident in Kongsberg on Wednesday night. – It’s scary, says Magnus Tangen, who was close by.

Sarkis Younan (24) is a student in Kongsberg and lives with a friend. They live 20 meters away from the current Coop store, where the incident took place.

– I was sitting and watching “Squid Game”, when I suddenly saw and heard sirens. I thought it was in the TV series, the student says.

– Suddenly I heard the police screaming like hell: “Put down your weapon!”, Says Younan.

He says there were several police cars with armed police with shields and armor that surrounded the place. They moved into the Coop store, and then one police car drove away, according to him. The police then started knocking on the windows in the street and asked that no one go out, says Younan.

FROM THE WINDOW: Around 9 pm, there are still armed police outside Younan’s apartment, with whom VG has spoken.

Younan himself was in the store about an hour before the incident. He says that there are many students who use it.

– Everyone who tends to be at Coop Extra knows each other and the employees. I hope no one has been seriously injured, he says.

When VG talks to Younan around 9 pm, there are still police right outside his building, and the street is still closed.

Just before 6.30 pm, the police announced on Twitter that a person had shot at people with a bow and arrow.

Witnesses testify about, according to Laagendalsposten, that a man is said to have been inside a Coop Extra store and aimed at people.

The man who carried out the act has been arrested by the police, the police state at a press conference on Wednesday night.

– There are several injured, and there are also people who died after these incidents, says regional leader Øyvind Aas in the Southeast police district.

– Scary

Magnus Tangen was on his way to a shop near Coop Extra when he heard the helicopter above him. When he arrived, the police and ambulances were already in place with a lot of blue lights.

– There was so much blue light that it was difficult to see the number of police cars, he says.

He lives close to Hyttegata where the police are now taking action.

– It is interesting and came out of nowhere. It is frightening that it is so close to where I live, that it is fully run here now, Tangen says.

The entire West Side in Kongsberg is cordoned off, and the emergency squad is on site, writes Laagendalsposten.

– Very chaotic here

VG has a neighbor on the line when the police inform that several have been injured and killed.

– It was heartbreaking to hear. You do not expect something like this to happen in little Kongsberg. It was terribly painful to hear, he says.

He was on his way home from Drammen when he was passed by eight police cars in full force. When he returns home, he is stopped by the police, and describes that he is almost torn out of the car. He was allowed to go home, but the car is outside the barriers until further notice.

– It’s very chaotic here yet. It is cordoned off by a huge area, and there are several patrols with dogs that look like they are on guard.

Another neighbor VG has spoken to says that she saw the blue lights out the window, and that she first thought it was an exercise.

– It is a quiet town, it is rare that something happens here.

She says there is still a large police force just above Chef 20, and that they have cordoned off parts of the area. She no longer sees the helicopter that has hung over them. The neighbor says she hopes for more information about what has happened.

– We have been told not to go out, and that is it.
