Sudden infant death: Researcher finds possible cause

Healthy babies dying suddenly have been unexplained tragedies until now. Now it turns out that it is a special enzyme that is not found enough in some of the brains of newborns. It is also plausible why smoking during pregnancy increases the risk.

It is probably the biggest fear of new parents. And the fear creeps into the magic of the first days, weeks and maybe even months after the birth of a child: sudden infant death. So that the little sleeper, if he is not snoring softly, could no longer breathe. And so parents sometimes stand by the bed at night, even if they weren’t woken up by screaming, and check whether the child is still breathing.
