The Abu Qir domestic train in Alexandria suffered a sudden malfunction of its brake system as it traveled east of the city, which resulted in it bypassing two stations before coming to a halt, causing panic among passengers.
A source from the Egyptian Railways Authority in Alexandria said train No. 84 of the Abu Qir internal line. Due to a sudden breakdown after passing through Sidi Bishr station, the driver was unable to stop him at Asafra and Mandara stations, causing panic among the passengers.
The source explained that the conductor tried to slow down until the train stopped before reaching the Montazah station and immediately after the train stopped, the passengers fled the carriages. Emphasizing that train traffic was interrupted for about an hour and a half, until train traffic was resumed again, and that no injuries were observed as a result of the accident.
According to published accounts by some passengers of the said train, the train was traveling normally from Misr station side towards Abu Qir, and stopping normally at Al-Hadra, Al-Dhahiriya, Bacchus, Gabriel, Al-Raml, Victoria stations and Sidi Bishr, and subsequently lost control of it, bypassing two stations until coming to rest before reaching Montazah station. .
One of the train passengers reported in his account that a number of young passengers tried to use the emergency brakes from inside the carriages, and some of them tried to calm the rest of the passengers until it stopped. entirely without injuries, while panic prevailed among a number of women and children.
