Sudan’s Transitional Sovereignty Council Welcomes Outcomes of Cairo Summit

Sudan’s Transitional Sovereignty Council announced its welcome to the outcomes of the summit of Sudan’s neighboring countries, which was held in Cairo on Thursday.

The Sovereignty Council said in a statement: “The Government of Sudan affirms its keenness to work with all parties seeking to stop the war and restore security and tranquility throughout our beloved country, and affirms that the Sudanese Armed Forces are ready to stop military operations immediately if the rebel militia is committed to stopping attacking homes, neighborhoods, civilian objects, government facilities, and parts roads and looting.

“With a commitment to initiating a political dialogue as soon as the war stops, leading to the formation of a civilian government that will lead the country during a transitional period that will end with elections in which all Sudanese will participate.” As stated in the statement.

The statement read, “The (Government of Sudan) extends its thanks to the Arab Republic of Egypt and President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi for inviting and hosting this important summit that aims to restore stability and security throughout our beloved country. His unity, safety, sovereignty and support for the people of Sudan to overcome this ordeal We also extend our thanks to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for its continuous endeavor through the Jeddah platform, as well as the United States of America to support the cessation of war and end the suffering of the Sudanese.

Al-Munfi calls for unifying international efforts to solve the Sudan crisis

Fighting between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces broke out in the capital, Khartoum, in April, and spread westward into the already troubled regions of Darfur and Kordofan.

The United Nations said that the conflict has killed more than a thousand civilians and displaced three million, and warned of a growing hunger crisis.

The United States and Saudi Arabia brokered several ceasefire agreements in Sudan, but suspended the talks due to violations by both sides of the conflict. Egypt invited Sudan’s neighboring countries to attend Thursday’s summit, whose final statement stressed the importance of preserving the Sudanese state and its capabilities and preventing its disintegration.
