Sudanese Family Loses 9 Members in Air Strike: Increase in Aerial Bombardment Victims in Khartoum

A Sudanese family lost 9 of its members who were killed in an air strike west of Khartoum. They are a man, his wife, 3 children and 4 of their grandchildren.

This coincided with the increase in the number of victims of indiscriminate aerial bombardment in a number of areas of Khartoum to more than 50 people, including children, according to collected data issued by human rights and youth committees in the three neighborhoods of the capital, Khartoum, Omdurman and Khartoum North.

A statement issued by the Sudanese “Emergency Lawyers” Committee said, “An air strike targeted the neighborhoods of Umbada, west of the city, killing more than 22 people and injuring dozens,” in addition to killing 9 people in the Shabiya neighborhood in downtown Khartoum North.

And youth committees in Al-Ashra neighborhood and other neighborhoods in southern Khartoum announced that at least 12 people had been killed since Saturday, due to air and artillery bombardment.

In the areas of Khartoum North and East Nile, more than 15 civilians were killed.

The “Emergency Lawyers” statement warned of “the human cost of the war that has been going on in Khartoum, Darfur and other parts of the country for about 3 months, which is being paid by unarmed citizens,” considering that “the use by both sides of the fighting of civilians as human shields and indiscriminate aerial bombardment are war crimes that will lead to the submission of the perpetrators to international justice.” “.

While about 3 million people have been displaced from the war zones in Khartoum and Darfur, according to the International Organization for Migration, millions of Sudanese are suffering great difficulties in covering daily expenses, which have doubled in many cities of the country.

This significant rise in prices comes in light of the interruption of the income of most employees, due to the great damage suffered by the banking system, and the halt of production in the country.

Sudan crisis.. IGAD meeting and neighborhood summit in Egypt

Specialists estimated the direct and indirect losses to the Sudanese economy, especially in the industrial and banking sectors, at more than $6 billion so far.

The fate of millions of school and university students remains unknown, after the war caused hundreds of thousands of them to flee to internal regions and neighboring countries.

The health sector is considered the most affected by the war, as more than 60 percent of the capital’s hospitals are out of service, according to the Sudan Doctors Syndicate, and the few hospitals available in the regions suffer from an acute shortage of medicines and medical equipment.

These developments come in light of the intense efforts being made by international and regional parties to stop the fighting, amid great doubts about the possibility of success of these efforts.

Sudan crisis.. escalation in light of calm efforts

Reports indicated that the Sudanese army delegation withdrew from the meetings that started in Addis Ababa on Monday, which are taking place under the auspices of the African Union and the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), and with wide international and Arab participation.

The Peace and Security Council of the African Union seeks to bring together the two fighting parties, and implement its plan, which it announced on the twenty-fifth of last June, and integrates the vision of the Jeddah platform led by Saudi Arabia and the United States, in addition to the “IGAD” proposals that stipulate measures leading to stopping the war and launching a political process. Conducive to the transfer of power from the army to civilians.
