Sudanese Army Offers Amnesty to Rapid Support Forces Members Who Surrender Their Weapons

The Sudanese army announced on Monday night that it would issue a decision to pardon members of the Rapid Support Forces who leave their weapons.

A brief statement issued by the office of the official spokesman for the armed forces said that the army “calls on the soldiers and officers of the Rapid Support Forces to hand over their weapons to the nearest military unit in exchange for amnesty.”

The statement added that the amnesty will include those who surrender arms in the armed forces, as of the date of notification.

Violent clashes have been taking place between the two parties since Saturday, after a long dispute over the integration of the Rapid Support Forces into the army.

The death toll from the clashes in Khartoum and 7 other cities in Sudan rose to about 185, and the wounded to more than two thousand, according to Sky News Arabia sources, on Monday night.

Khartoum turned into a “ghost town” after 3 days of fighting, as it became difficult for the population to move around to meet their needs in light of the aerial bombardment and violent clashes on the ground.
