Sudanese Army Denies Air Raid on Omdurman City, Blames Rebel Militia for False Accusations

In an official statement, on Sunday, the Sudanese army denied that it had launched any air raid, on Saturday, in the city of Omdurman in the capital, Khartoum, which resulted in the death and injury of civilians.

The General Command of the Sudanese Armed Forces said that the Air Force did not deal yesterday with any hostile targets in Omdurman.

She added that the Rapid Support Forces were the ones who pinned this charge on the armed forces as part of “the media disinformation and continuous lying pursued by the rebel militia in an attempt to cover up its violations and continuous crimes against civilians.”

And she continued, “We made it clear more than once that the militia used to bomb residential areas with artillery and missiles, coinciding with the flight of our planes, in an attempt to accuse the armed forces of targeting citizens falsely and falsely.”

The Sudanese Armed Forces Facebook page said, on Saturday, that the Special Action Forces carried out a qualitative operation in the city of Omdurman against the Rapid Support Forces.

The page did not mention anything about the participation of an air force in the operation.

During the past hours, the city of Omdurman witnessed violent clashes between the army and the Rapid Support Forces, amid news of the army’s progress in the city.

The Sudanese Ministry of Health in Khartoum State stated that at least 22 people were killed and dozens wounded in an air strike carried out by the army in the city of Omdurman.

Later, the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, condemned the killing of civilians in Omdurman.

A UN spokesman said Guterres expressed his regret over the news that more than 20 civilians had been killed in an air strike in Omdurman.

He condemned the killing of civilians due to the violence in the Darfur region, and expressed his concern about the renewed fighting in the states of North Kordofan, South Kordofan and Blue Nile.

He said that there is a complete disregard for humanitarian law and human rights in a dangerous and disturbing way.
