Sudan: KSrelief attends a meeting on the side of the UNGA

KSrelief Director General Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al-Rabeeah will attend a meeting in Sudan on the sidelines of the UNGA in New York on Wednesday.

The director general of the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center, Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al-Rabeeah, attended a meeting on Sudan on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

The meeting, titled “The Cost of Inaction: Urgent and Complementary Support to Enhance Humanitarian Response in Sudan and the Region,” aimed to strengthen support for the humanitarian response in Sudan and the region. .

Representatives from Saudi Arabia, Egypt, the United States, the European Union and the African Union participated in the high-level event.

Al-Rabeeah said that Saudi Arabia is fully aware of its responsibility towards Sudan and that it has “made great efforts since the beginning of the crisis to find ways to bring hope” to the country.

“This includes the Jeddah Declaration for the protection of civilians, as well as humanitarian access. The task force also made efforts to save lives and bring peace to Sudan so that we could reach thousands of people in Darfur.”

“However, the recent violence in several regions has caused further damage, which has pushed millions of people to flee their homes, leaving behind their families and their businesses. ,” he said.

Al-Rabeeah said that the Kingdom has allocated $3 billion in aid to the country, which has been distributed across several sectors and humanitarian sectors.

He said that KSrelief, even before the crisis started in April 2023, had moved towards implementing more sustainable interventions.

“The worsening security situation, however, affected the progress made, which required further efforts on our part. We have redoubled our efforts and increased our donations. From April 2023, we have launched a series of projects worth $73 million,” said the head of KSrelief.

Al-Rabeeah said that the Kingdom, together with the United Nations and other humanitarian organizations, provided support through land and sea channels.

“We are supporting the government and we are also campaigning to help the people of Sudan with donations exceeding $125 million.

“However, despite all these efforts made by our country, there are still challenges and the crisis requires coordinated efforts to ensure unimpeded humanitarian access to the country and to provide a sustained and coordinated response – order to provide, as well as safe and unimpeded access to conflict-affected areas.

“The international humanitarian community must respond to this humanitarian crisis in Sudan that goes beyond any political issues. This is a humanitarian tragedy that requires us to overcome existing divisions,” he said.

Al-Rabeeah said that the Kingdom is making great efforts to ensure that the necessary support is given to the people of Sudan.
