Alain Delon died on August 18.
French acting legend Alain Delon died on August 18. Before he died, he made a special request regarding his burial.
The Guardian magazine reported that Delon had hoped that his 10-year-old dog Loubo would be “put to sleep” and placed in Delon’s grave to lie with him.
Animal activists were dismayed by the movie star’s wish to euthanize a healthy living animal. When activists threatened to find a new home for the animal, it was announced that the dog would not be euthanized for Delon’s sake.
The Brigitte Bardot Foundation says that it has talked about the case with Delon’s daughter, Anouchka Delon. They received confirmation from him about the survival of the Loubo dog.
– Anouchka Delon just called me and told me that Loubo is part of the family and that it will be kept. The dog will not be euthanized, the foundation’s spokesperson said.
The newspaper says that there is no such law in France that prevents owners from euthanizing their animals. Veterinarians, however, ultimately decide whether they will implement the request to euthanize the animal or not.
Annouchka’s daughter has published pictures of Delon’s heart friend Loubo. In a photo from last year, he writes touchingly.
– Whenever a person is unhappy, god sends a dog. Thank you Loubo for supporting your owner, he wrote in the caption.
The acting legend was buried a week after his death, on August 24. The Loubo dog has not been buried, nor euthanized.
Dogs were vital to Delon
Delon has already mentioned the importance of Loubo in an interview with Paris Match magazine in 2018.
– He is my dog for the rest of my life. I love him like a child. I’ve had 50 dogs in my life, but I have a special relationship with this one (the Loubo dog), Delon told the magazine.
Delon is known to have had at least around 50 dogs. He has created a chapel near his home where all the remains of his dead animals are buried. According to the newspaper, there are about 35 dead animals.
Delon left behind three children: Anthony, 59, Anouchka, 33, and Alain-Fabien, 30. His children gave a statement about their father’s passing to the news agency AFP. In their statement, the children also announced Delon’s best friend, Loubo the dog.
– Alain Fabien, Anouchka, Anthony and Loubo are deeply saddened to announce the passing of their father. He died peacefully at his home in Douchy, surrounded by his three children and family, the statement said.
He wanted to end his days already in 2022
In 2022, Delon has wanted to end his days with euthanasia. At the time, his son Anthony said in an interview with the RTL radio channel that his father does not want to be a helpless old man.
Anthony said that his father made the decision due to his deteriorating health. Delon has hoped to get help from his eldest son in carrying out the euthanasia.
Delon lived in Switzerland since 1978, where euthanasia is completely legal.
Alain Delon has previously spoken publicly in favor of euthanasia and defended a person’s right from a certain age to leave peacefully without a hospital.
Delon’s health began to decline after his longtime partner Mirelle Darcová died in 2017. Delon suffered two strokes in 2019.
Delon, who has made an acting career lasting more than half a century, has acted in more than 70 films. His most recent role was in a movie Asterix at the Olympics in 2008, where he presented Julius Caesar. In the 1960s, Delon was one of the biggest sex symbols of European cinema.
