Vietnam initiating a mass vaccination program Covid-19 on Monday (8/3). Health workers are the top priority for giving corona vaccine.
The Vietnamese government plans to provide free vaccines for citizens with priority on medical personnel, security forces, diplomats, teachers, and the elderly over 65 years.
“When it’s your turn, go and get Covid-19 vaccinated to protect yourself and your relatives for a healthy community,” the health ministry said in a statement on its official website.
Last month the Vietnamese government said it would get 150 million doses of the coronavirus vaccine through the COVAX scheme.
Quoting Reuters, The administration of the vaccine this time is the first batch of 117,600 doses of AstraZeneca vaccine that arrived in Vietnam at the end of February.
Vietnam has won global acclaim after successfully curbing the spread of the coronavirus by closing borders from the start, mass testing and a strict quarantine program.
Compared to other countries in Southeast Asia, the transmission rate of the corona virus in Vietnam is low. The country of 96 million has only reported around 2,500 cases with 35 deaths.
When faced with the fourth wave of the spread of Covid-19 in the city of Danang in September, there were concerns that the corona virus would spread more severely than the previous three waves.
The emergence of the British variant of the corona virus in January had sparked similar concerns. However, the transmission rate continued to decline to single digits last week.
