Successful Vaccination Campaign for Dogs and Cats in Neuquén Municipality: A Public Health Initiative

People responsible for dogs and cats attended the vaccination campaign en masse.

Before the anti-rabies vaccination devices opened in four neighborhoods at the same time on a special day organized by the Municipality of Neuquén, there were already lines of people with dogs and cats, which demonstrates the success of this public policy.

The call was on demand and so large that people came from other sectors of the city. In a short time, 258 doses of rabies vaccine were administered, 190 non-human animals were dewormed, and 35 temperamental dogs were registered in the municipal registry.

It is an important initiative of the Healthy City Undersecretariat headed by Andrea Ferracioli, which this time had the Esfuerzo, Provincias Unidas, Parque Industrial Oeste and Valentina Sur neighborhoods as its epicenter.

The methodology of working in the territory is a registered trademark of this portfolio, “it involves bringing the State closer to the neighbors, which guarantees greater effectiveness in the actions we undertake,” he reflected.

And it is going more: Ferracioli anticipated that starting next month, in November, there will be a veterinarian especially dedicated to vaccinating in each mobile operating room that rotates through the city.

Starting in November, Ciudad Saludable veterinarians will vaccinate in a special way in municipal trailers.

“It is a public policy that is maintained over time and is part of a view of animal welfare that places us on the national and also Latin American stage,” underlined the Secretary of Citizenship, Luciana De Giovanetti.

He noted that this continuity improves the health of the city and is beneficial to ensure the well-being of domestic animals.

Ferracioli explained that this is because it is part of a prevention program, while he recalled that the application of the vaccine is mandatory; “For a year and a half we have been applying it free of charge by decision of Mayor Mariano Gaido because it is preventive and protects non-human animals from rabies and is good for people’s health.”

“It is a matter of public health, we are guaranteeing equitable access to this quality service, as well as free castration and deworming that contribute to preventing diseases and also stimulate healthy lives,” Ferracioli insisted.

Beyond this special day, the municipality vaccinates against rabies, always free, from Monday to Friday morning in the center of the Industrial Park where one of the municipal operating rooms operates, located at 3215 Domingo Savio Street.

The official recalled that vaccination should be done once a year and deworming at each change of season as a general rule.
