Washington DC –
Military United States of America (US) declared successful in preventing two Navy attempts Iran to confiscate tankers commercial in international waters near Oman. Tehran in its response emphasized that it had official permission from the court to seize the two foreign-flagged tankers.
As reported AFP and ReutersThursday (6/7/2023), Tehran has stepped up its actions against tankers in the region since Washington tightened sanctions on Iran’s oil exports and other parts of its economy.
US Central Command said on Wednesday (5/7) local time, Iran attempted to seize Marshall Islands-flagged TRF Moss oil tanker and Bahamian-flagged oil tanker Richmond Voyager within hours in international waters near Oman.
The US Central Command said the Iranian Navy ships fled after a US destroyer appeared at the scene.
Furthermore, the US Central Command explained that on Wednesday (5/7) afternoon, at around 11:00 local time, an Iranian Navy ship approached TRF Moss in the waters of the Gulf of Oman.
“The Iranian vessel left the scene when the USS McFaul guided-missile destroyer arrived at the scene,” US Central Command said in a statement.
About three hours later, the US Navy received a distress call from the Richmond Voyager, which was more than 32 kilometers off the coast of Muscat. Another Iranian Navy ship was near the tanker and sent a message asking it to stop.
