Freiburg (dpa/lsw) – The smoking ban in the SC Freiburg stadium, which was introduced just last week, was well received by fans. “Some stewards were allowed to have one or two conversations about smoking, but yellow cards were not necessary in the game against Bochum,” a spokesman for the Bundesliga soccer club told the German Press Agency on Monday.
The people of Breisgau had announced that they would intensify protection for non-smokers and, in extreme cases, sanction smoking with a stadium ban. In the event of violations, yellow cards should be shown as a first step. The ban applies throughout the entire stadium, but yellow cards should initially only be shown on the seats. The club said that full non-smoking protection “cannot be enforced, controlled or sanctioned” in the standing areas.
