Erfurt – At German schools abroad under Thuringian school supervision, 350 young people graduated in the current school year. 136 students passed their Abitur, as the Thuringian Ministry of Education announced on Monday. The average grade was 1.9. The average grade for the 214 students who completed their secondary school leaving certificate was 2.27.
The data relates to German schools abroad in Copenhagen, Helsinki, Oslo, Stockholm, Warsaw, Moscow and St. Petersburg, for which the Free State has taken over school supervision as part of the Conference of Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs (KMK) since 2022. “The work at schools abroad not only promotes the pupils of these schools, but also represents Germany abroad and stands for understanding and international partnership and exchange,” explained Thuringia’s Minister of Education Helmut Holter (left). For teachers, a foreign assignment is a cultural enrichment.
From Wednesday on, the Association of German Teachers Abroad will meet in Erfurt for an annual conference. It represents the teachers at the 135 recognized German schools abroad.
“The work in Russia was particularly difficult this school year,” said Holter. He is all the happier “that the exams were successful despite all the adversities and that the students can now hold their degrees in their hands.” According to the ministry, around 85,000 children and young people study at German schools abroad.
