Donating blood is a privilege: not everyone is allowed to donate, but everyone could need it at some point. According to the German Red Cross, every third person may urgently need a blood product once in their life.
But only 3.5 percent of people in Germany regularly donate blood. However, at least six percent is required to completely secure a supply. That’s why it’s all the more important that once you’re approved to donate, you stick with it regularly.
The organization on site in Haltern is so good that the bureaucracy cannot be used as an excuse. During the last campaign on Friday, January 20th, in the Joseph Hennewig School, twice as many donors than usual took part.
It is commendable and truly impressive how many have heeded the DRK’s call. But we can only speak of success if this good level can be maintained over the long term. Therefore: a good start that should be taken up again.
Because the DRK is still reporting a bottleneck in blood supplies – also in NRW. An alarm signal that should be taken seriously. You do something good for yourself by doing something good for others. Because when you donate blood, further laboratory tests are carried out that provide information about your own state of health, and anyone who does not know their own blood group will also be informed about it.
