There are no such things as coincidences, they say. But Wilfried – also the name of the main character in the film – and Kristin unsuspectingly went to Kinepolis Antwerp to catch ‘WIL’ on the silver screen. A trip that had been on their list for a while. They were surprised by Matteo Simoni, Annelore Crollet and Jeroen Olyslaegers with a signed copy of the book and a bouquet of flowers. At the time of filming, the couple had already come into contact with the film in Antwerp Central Station.
Tim Mielants’ film adaptation is therefore well received, with more than 200,000 tickets sold. The book also continues to do very well: no fewer than 12,500 copies of the film edition have been sold since its release. In total, the book has been sold 90,000 times since the story came out in 2016.
‘WIL’ tells the story of three young people who try to survive in an occupied city during the Second World War. In addition to Stef Aerts, Matteo Simoni and Annelore Crollet, Dirk Roofthooft, Kevin Janssens, Koen De Bouw, Jan Bijvoet, Els Dottermans and Jan Decleir also appear in the film.
