The Patio de Comedias of the La Mancha town continues with its cultural agenda in its eleventh edition of the Torralba de Calatrava Theater and Puppet Festival, which once again welcomes different theater companies to offer a heterogeneous and entertaining programme.
Before starting the weekend, on Thursday, August 4, the theater company, Festuc Teatre, performed the work of The Marvelous Lamp. A theater and puppet show that spoke to us about desires, acceptance and love. The story of a girl with only one wish: that her mother be cured of the cancer she suffers from. A work that, as Pere Pàmpols, an actor from the company, says, is “a formula for children to have fun and for adults to reflect a little”.
Thus, Pàmpols points out that “despite being a children’s theater, everyone likes to go”. The company from Lleida has been active for 20 years and has always had fun and the transmission of values through reflection as its objective. A perfect mesh between music, narration and interpretation in order to favor the experience within the theater. A work that did not leave anyone indifferent and that managed to move the public.

On Friday night it was the turn of the Perigallo Teatro company with Headliners. A performance where we were able to accompany Vidal and Manzana, a couple of comedians, in the creation of their next production when life puts them in a bind. The play left its mark and taught the importance of being true to yourself and your values.
The company’s actress, Celia Nadal, spoke of how returning to Torralba to act was “like coming home”. She remembered the history of the Patio de Comedias and the importance of theater, which, as she pointed out, “is worth changing the world.” A performance that, as the actress expected, left many with their hearts touched.
Lope who gave birth to you arrived in Torralba on Saturday with the company Malaje Solo. A documentary comedy that transported us to the Golden Age and Art in a didactic and entertaining way. In the play, where we could hear the laughter among the audience, we attended the performance of two abbreviated versions of The best mayor, the king by Lope de Vega and Life is a dream by Calderón, to be able to see the contrast between the two works. Likewise, as an intermission, the actors spoke about the characteristics of the theater of the time.

The company, which declares itself a fan of Lope de Vega, has more than 20 years of history and has always put humor first. A humor that managed to spread a smile from the first moment they stepped on stage. The actor, José Antonio Aguilar, imagined Lope sitting enjoying the show and, although he cannot be completely sure, he tells how the approach that they have given to the show occurred to him in the Patio de Comedias. Aguilar assures that “the Patio de Comedias is the ideal place to pay homage to the Golden Age”.
Before the end of the weekend, the musical show was added to the cultural agenda by the Santísima Trinidad Polyphonic Choir of Torralba de Calatrava together with the children’s choir. The concert titled, Canciones de Siempre, which could not be performed on its initial date, captivated the public on the last night of the weekend.
To celebrate the 25th anniversary of the local choral group, attendees were able to enjoy popular songs such as Mediterranean by Joan Manuel Serrat or Dancing Queen by Abba as well as the hit song Shallow by the American performer, Lady Gaga, among others. A concert with music as the protagonist that put the entire Patio de Comedias on its feet.
Success of the Torralba Theater and Puppet Festival
The mayor, María Antonia Álvaro, celebrates the success achieved after this second week of programming and encourages everyone to attend the next performances that will continue in the Patio de Comedias until August 20. Álvaro thus recalls “the importance of this cultural meeting by and for Torralbeños and the national recognition that continues to grow”.
