According to the Ministry of Health of the Department, under the slogan ‘Vaccinating saves lives’, the Department joined forces to immunize the population.
Tunja, July 31, 2023. (UACP). With the leadership of the Boyacá Secretary of Health, Lyda Marcela Pérez Ramírez and the Director of Health Promotion and Prevention, Nancy Judith Munévar, support professionals from the Expanded Immunization Program – PAI, accompanied the Third National Vaccination Day, in the Department.
The conference was focused on achieving useful vaccination coverage with all the EPI biologics, and aimed at the susceptible population of the National Vaccination Plan – PNV, against Covid 19, through the implementation of strategies and tactics that generate protection against to diseases preventable by vaccines, throughout the national territory and in spaces for local positioning that place the EPI on the political agenda.
During the development of this activity, in Boyacá a total of 164 vaccination points were opened, 124 intramural vaccination points and 40 extramural points of the health-providing institutions, vaccinators, of the 123 municipalities, which also implemented extended hours, home-to-home home and/or in mobile units, and vaccination in areas of population concentration.
In the 164 vaccination points, the 22 vaccines available in the national scheme were offered, which can combat 30 different diseases in boys and girls under six years of age, pregnant women and women of childbearing age; HPV for girls 9 to 17 years of age; triple viral, measles and rubella for children born from 2010 to 2019, adults over 60 years of age and people with underlying diseases; and the Covid -19 vaccine according to the national scheme.
In this regard, the referent of the Program, Sandra Antolinez, assured: “in terms of human talent, professionals from the departmental PAI team traveled to 66 vaccination points in the different municipalities, to supervise the day. There were also 173 vaccinators, while 141 professionals coordinated the activity at each point, and 123 people supported the registration and channeling of the population to be vaccinated. We also had the support of mayors, local health secretariats and strategic allies of the PAI in municipalities such as representatives of the entities that administer health benefit plans, public health managers, representatives of the Department for Social Prosperity, among others”.
Additionally, “during the vaccination day held on July 28 and 29, 2023, a total of 6,836 doses were administered to the Colombian population in Boyacá; 43 newborns vaccinated with BCG and Hepatitis B were vaccinated; Third doses of the pentavalent vaccine were completed for 96 boys and girls, 122 doses of triple viral for one-year-old children, and 1,005 girls and boys were vaccinated with a triple viral booster distributed in the following ages: 252 aged 18 months, 192 aged 2-year-olds, 198 3-year-olds, 196 4-year-olds, and 167 5-year-olds. Girls were vaccinated with HPV with first and second doses. Regarding the seasonal influenza biologic, 690 boys and girls from 6 to 23 months, 60 pregnant women, 2,110 adults aged 60 years and over, 278 health workers and 471 people with a diagnosis of risk were vaccinated.
Likewise, a total of 81 doses were administered, according to the current national scheme, to the foreign population,” said Secretary Pérez.
The Departmental Health team hopes that the population will continue to start, continue and complete the vaccination schemes, in order to immunize the entire Boyacá population. (End / María Alejandra Ramírez Pinto – UACP).
