The future of Feyenoord is a topic of discussion on Friday afternoon in the program De Voetbalkantine, now that coach Arne Slot is on his way to Liverpool. Former player Royston Drenthe is not afraid that things will go wrong. But, Sinclair Bischop adds: “What is important is how many pieces of the puzzle are removed.”
“Winter thin line at Feyenoord”
The most important piece of the puzzle, trophy winner Slot, seems to be taking his valuable assistant Sipke Hulshoff to Liverpool. Former trainer Robert Maaskant, and friend of the show at De Voetbalkantine, fears that it will not stop there. “I think it’s a razor-thin line at Feyenoord.”
Maaskant explains: “Ultimately it’s about those twelve, thirteen players who have to ensure success. The moment David Hancko starts running, Mats Wieffer starts running, maybe Quinten Timber and you’re not that great up front. Because They did not participate in the championship this year. They won the cup, which is also celebrated enormously, but the cup is of course five games. That is relatively small in the Netherlands.”
Table guest Milan van Dongen adds: “From a football point of view, only John de Wolf remains. That is of course quite thin.”
Sinclair Bischop concludes on a positive note. “Feyenoord was often unable to make transfers. This summer they hope to finally do so. So that they can also bring in players from the top. They can probably put together a selection that can participate, even if leading players leave. Then is to find a trainer who fits the philosophy.”
