Werner was injured in his team’s Champions League match to confirm his absence from the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
“Timo Werner was successfully operated on Monday after injuring his left ankle during the 4-0 win against Shakhtar Donetsk on 2 November,” Leipzig said in a statement.
It was reported that Werner had returned to Leipzig last summer from Chelsea who was unable to shine in their ranks.
