Lucinda Riley’s success didn’t happen overnight. Between 1992 and 2002, the Irish wrote eight novels, the last of which sold so poorly that her publisher ended the collaboration.
She then focuses on motherhood for years, until she reads a book about the history of the orchid while traveling in Thailand. Then in 2010 appears “The orchid house” and that becomes a bestseller. The success formula seems to be the mix between a very sweet love story and (romanticized) historical events: the foundation for “The seven sisters” has been laid.
Fun fact: Riley “writes” all her books via dictaphone, and then types them out. She says she can write anywhere.
Two months ago, Riley announced that the eighth part of “The Seven Sisters”, Pa Salt’s story, would be released next year. According to her Dutch publisher, it is not yet clear whether the eighth book has already been completed and whether the series will therefore have an end.
