The 26th Castilla y León Theater Fair says goodbye today Saturday with a good taste in the mouth that leaves the response from both the public and those involved in the performing arts sector. The 258 accredited entities have brought 600 professionals from all over Spain and Portugal to Ciudad Rodrigo, while the 70 scheduled performances of 45 different shows have together attracted 32,000 spectators, which represents 94% of the available capacity, as has been The vice-councillor for Cultural Action, Mar Sancho, who attended the closing of the Mirobrigense scenic event this afternoon, stood out.
Companies and producers have been able to show their shows to those who are engaged in contracting: 57% of those attending the scenic market, to which another 7% are added that make buying and selling compatible, while 28% respond to the profile seller and 8% to the market facilitator.
The registered data reveals the fidelity of the professionals, since seven out of 10 had already attended the 2022 Fair, while the remaining 30% represents the replacement with new entities that attend to offer their productions or to design their programming.
In many cases, future contracts for the shows exhibited have already been agreed and both the quality and the variety of the programming have been valued by professionals, who have underlined the creative risk of the shows and the opportunity to meet new companies in Rodrigo City.
During these five days, Ciudad Rodrigo has received professionals from all the autonomous communities, with a notable presence of those from Madrid, Extremadura, Andalusia and the Basque Country, as well as a group of cultural programmers who have traveled from the Canary Islands.
10% of them have come from Portugal, a territory with which the Theater Fair maintains a close link that has become one of its hallmarks. This complicity between the two territories has also been reflected in a working meeting between representatives of the Direção Geral das Artes (DGArtes) of Portugal with the Fairs Coordinator COFAE, in which eight associated fairs have participated, to explore formulas for collaboration and strengthen the exchange.
The influx of public at this 26th Castilla y León Theater Fair remains at the best levels of the years prior to the pandemic, with around 32,000 spectators attending the proposals scheduled in the 15 spaces, more than 11,000 corresponding to the shows of room and, the rest, to those held outdoors and to complementary activities, which represents an occupancy of 94% of the available capacity.
The children’s entertainment section Divierteatro has had the participation of 2,000 children. The new Espacio Siega Verde, reserved for the exhibition of the production that divulges the value of the site ‘Los secretos de la piedra’, by Alúa Teatro, has received 840 spectators in the 12 screenings carried out.
Classic and contemporary theatre, music, dance, puppets, circus, street arts or ‘mapping’ have been part of a program aimed at all kinds of audiences, early childhood, children and families, young people and adults. The poster has once again reflected the scenic reality of the northwest of the peninsula, with a total of 15 absolute premieres and special attention to Castilian and Leonese companies, 15 selected, of which 10 have premiered in Ciudad Rodrigo: Corsario, Hopscotch, Teatro de Poniente, Baychimo, Teatro del Navegante, David Vento Dance Theater, Niñas Malditas, Brama Teatro, Alúa Teatro and Algazara. Five other Community productions and co-productions were added to these firsts: Ana I. Rocero, ArvineDanza, LaImperfekta & Clau_topia, Calema Prod., Territorio Violeta and Es.Arte, and Clara García Fraile.
Organized by the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Sports, the Castilla y León Theater Fair is the result of collaboration between public and private institutions, as it has the support of the Ciudad Rodrigo City Council, the Salamanca Provincial Council and the entity promoter and coordinator of the event (the Civitas Cultural Association), in addition to the support of INAEM, the Junta de Extremadura (which has been represented at the closing ceremony by the new Secretary General of Culture, Francisco Palomino), the Junta de Andalucía, the Federation of Self-Employed and Entrepreneurs of the Ciudad Rodrigo Region (AFECIR), COFAE and, this year for the first time, of the Siega Verde Foundation.
