The flood situation in Austria is getting worse. On Sunday, Puls-4 reporter Rene Ach reported from Vienna on the situation along the Wien River, particularly on Pilgramgasse. Ach explained that the water level of the Wien River has risen alarmingly and that the U4 subway line can only operate to a limited extent. Normally, the Wien River is more like a “trickle.” But now it threatens to flood the U4.
U4 in Vienna is closed due to flooding – situation tense
The dramatic situation was triggered by the unstoppable rise in water levels, which was exacerbated by the overflowing retention basins. These imponderables led to a partial closure of the U4 and other precautionary measures, such as the use of dam beams and sandbags.
Construction work on a large subway construction site next to Pilgramgasse has been halted to ensure the safety of the workers. Wiener Linien confirmed the evacuation of construction personnel and stressed that further flooding cannot be ruled out. The situation remains tense.
