The subway had a record number of passengers in times of pandemic on Thursday, reaching the figure of 4 million passengers, according to the MTA.
“Yesterday, 4 million people traveled by subway, the highest number since the start of the pandemic.
“Whether you’ve been riding with us all this time or just recently returned to transit, we appreciate it. Thank you for continuing to #TakeTheTrain,” read a social media post from the MTA.

The record number is still below what the daily influx of travelers was before the pandemic when it was normal to exceed 5 million daily trips.
However, Governor Kathy Hochul also celebrated that the record number of four million travelers has been reached.
“🗣 FOUR MILLION PASSENGERS
Yesterday was a record day for @MTA, with the highest number of subway riders since March 2020!” the governor wrote in a message on social networks using a ‘gif’ of Yankees star Aaron Judge.
