In the current E-Football-Kreisliga season they do not take part in the game, and the console table footballers of VfR Wilsche-Neubokel did not actually participate in the 3rd NFV E-Football Cup. But since the reigning E-Football District League runner-up VfL Rötgesbüttel withdrew his team from the district league and thereby lost his right to start the Lower Saxony Championship (we reported), the third place in the previous season was allowed to move up – and made it to the quarter-finals!
“We entered the tournament without great expectations, we knew that only good opponents were waiting for us,” said Sebastian Keier, who together with Jonas Höft, Niklas Ptassek and Philipp Fröhlich formed the VfR team. “The goal was clearly to get through one lap. The fact that we survived two more rounds after the bye in round 1 is of course a good result, ”said the VfR district league footballer.

Championship takes place online
A total of 55 teams took part in the 3rd e-football event of the Lower Saxony Football Association (NFV), which, due to the corona, did not take place in the Swiss Life Hall in Hanover, as in the previous year, but online. Instead of measuring themselves against their opponents in the “two against two” mode on site and being cheered on by many spectators, every player now gambled at home. In the “90s mode” (all eligible teams had the same strength), a maximum of three games of the game FIFA21 were played on the PlayStation 4 per round. A victory in the “One on One” was rated with one point, if two points were achieved progress was certain. At least three players per team had to be registered.
Annoying elimination against the eventual winner
After their bye at the beginning of the next two knockout rounds, the Wilschers prevailed against SV Viktoria Oldendorf and SV Grün-Weiß Kleinenkneten with 2: 1 each. In the round of the last eight, SG Lenglern / Harste, the eventual winner of the tournament, waited for the Red-Whites, who were extremely unhappy with 0: 2 after a 2-1 defeat by Höft and a 2-3 defeat by Keier Eliminated from the competition. The latter had led 2-1 in his individual duel up to the 69th minute, before he had to equalize one pointer later and then accept the decisive goal two minutes before the end.
So what prevailed among the Wilschers? The joy of having made it this far or the disappointment about the narrow elimination? “On the one hand, being out against the tournament winner is more bearable,” explained Keier, “on the other hand, it is all the more annoying because there would have been more because the games were very close. Overall, it was fun, we can be satisfied. “
District master Wedelheine stopped early
For the second Gifhorn participant, however, things did not go as planned. 1. FC Wedelheine had qualified as district league champions for the state championship, but could not convince there. The team around Yannick Porada, Ken-Adrian Konnegen and Marvin Hoppe won 2-0 against SC Tewel in round 1, but then failed with a 2-1 win against SC Rot-Weiß Volkmarode in round 2. A bitter one Elimination, especially since the FC kickers still won their first game against Volkmarode, but then suffered two defeats in a row. The reason for leaving early? “We don’t play well under pressure,” said Porada.
Praise from the Gifhorn e-football officer
Steven Melzian, E-Football representative of the NFV district Gifhorn, was nevertheless satisfied with the performance of both domestic teams: “In particular, the boys from VfR Wilsche-Neubokel were nominated for the tournament at short notice and delivered a top performance. To be eliminated from the eventual tournament winner is always unfortunate, ”said Melzian. “It is very gratifying that the Wilscher and Wedelheiner kickers pushed and cheered each other on. During the breaks they even gambled among themselves to keep warm. Both wanted to represent the NFV-Kreis Gifhorn as best as possible in the tournament. “
