The subsidy for new electric cars next year will remain at the same level as this year. The previously planned phase-out will not take place, outgoing State Secretary Vivianne Heijnen (Infrastructure and Water Management) reports to the House of Representatives.
Anyone who wants to buy an e-car next year will therefore be entitled to 2,950 euros instead of 2,550 euros. Heijnen fears that the enthusiasm for cleaner cars will decrease further if the subsidy is phased out.
Changes in motor vehicle tax and inflation make it less financially beneficial to own an electric car. As a result, there are fears that sales will decline.
Two years ago you received 4,000 euros when purchasing a new fully electric car. This compensation has since been gradually reduced, but this has now come to an end for the time being. It was expected that electric cars would become cheaper over the years. This would mean that less subsidy would be needed to persuade people.
Heijnen says that she still wants to do something for buyers of electric cars within the options she still has after the fall of the cabinet. It is up to a new cabinet to come up with measures for the period after 2025, the minister says.
