Subsidizing charter flights, as well as cashback programs (the opportunity to return part of the amount spent on travel) will help reduce the cost of flights to the Far East and make the region more tourist attractive. Tatyana Lobach, Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Tourism and Tourism Infrastructure Development, stated this in an interview with URA.RU.
“The region has enormous potential. I think there will be enough people willing to go there. But we need to reduce the cost of travel to the Far Eastern region. It is necessary to check internal reserves and organize certain subsidies. There was a charter flight subsidy program. We need to go in this direction. It is possible to use cashback. If a person chooses this or that region during non-tourist times, then, of course, he can subsidize part of the trip. In this way we will be able to increase the tourist flow to the Far Eastern region. We also analyzed that sometimes a plane from Moscow to Yakutia or Kamchatka costs less than traveling between regions. The cost needs to be much less. So that we can have interregional air service. There is also a river connection. We need to look in this direction too,” explained Tatyana Lobach.
The State Duma deputy added that the region may be of interest to both residents of Russia and Asian countries. “We do not forget that the region borders China. A large number of Asian countries are interested in visiting the Far East. Our task now is to build hotels; the government has already directed its efforts in this direction, to ensure transport accessibility, and to build infrastructure. This tourism needs to be year-round. The Far Eastern region now attracts tourists with its natural resources. Take the Kuril Islands, Kamchatka, our Lake Baikal, the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia), Primorsky Territory. About 13 protected areas. But besides nature, there must be some kind of program that is interesting throughout the year. Maybe these are areas such as gastrotourism, industrial tourism,” added Lobach.
Earlier, Deputy Minister of Economic Development of the Russian Federation Dmitry Vakhrukov said at the Eastern Economic Forum that the flow of tourists to the Far East could double by 2030 and amount to 7.1-7.2 million trips per year. In 2022, 3.5 million people visited the region, which is 10% more than in 2021.
