‘Submarine killer’ Peter Madsen escapes from prison me …

The eccentric inventor Peter Madsen escaped for a while from the Herstedvester prison in Albertslund on Tuesday, where he is serving a life sentence. The Danish submarine killer did not get far and could be arrested just after.

Madsen threatened the jailers on Tuesday morning with a bomb belt that he wore around his body. He threatened to detonate it and got out of jail with it, but hundreds of officers quickly arrived and were able to locate it.

He was surrounded by a fence, where he sat in the grass and still threatened to detonate the belt. Officers held him at gunpoint and a robot arrived to release the seat belt safely from his body. Images also showed explosive dogs. The police action ended around 1 pm and Madsen was arrested again.

“Barely five minutes free”

Peter Madsen has, according to Justice, made his way out of prison with threats. He threatened an employee or employee, Herstedvester prison chief Hanne Høegh Rasmussen said at a news conference in Albertslund on Tuesday. No one was physically injured, but psychologically it is a heavy blow to the person involved. The principal couldn’t say more, except that Madsen was back behind bars.

Høegh Rasmussen did not say who it was about. The Danish boulevard newspaper Ekstra Bladet reported that Madsen had threatened a psychologist with something that looked like a gun. The police also reported such an object, but they do not believe it was a real weapon. Madsen also wore something on his body that looked like a bomb belt, but there was no evidence that it actually contained explosives.

Madsen was arrested trying to jump into a van. There is nothing to indicate that the driver knew him. The convicted murderer was only briefly released: at 10:21 am the prison reported the escape and at 10:26 am he was already arrested.

Not first try

According to the Danish news site EkstraBladet it’s not the first time Madsen tried to escape. He has been placed in isolation several times because the guards had heard that he had a plan to escape.

The inventor is serving a life sentence for the ‘submarine murder’ of the Swedish journalist Kim Wall (30). She came to Madsen’s homemade submarine in August 2017 to interview him, but nothing more was heard from her after that. Finally, her severed limbs were found. It wasn’t until the trial that Madsen confessed to killing her.
