MEXICO CITY.
A gunman opened fire during a choir’s open-air performance on the steps of the Cathedral Church of St. John the Divine in New York City’s northwest district on Sunday, then was shot to death by police, de agreement with police officers and a Reuters photographer at the scene.
Sergeant Edward Riley, a spokesman for the New York City Police Department, said the man fired at the officers, but no officers or assistants were believed to have been injured.
The suspect, who was not identified, was rushed to a local hospital in critical condition, Sgt. New York City Police Commissioner Dermot Shea later told reporters that the attacker had died.
The shooting occurred outside the cathedral of the Episcopal Diocese of New York, in the middle of a performance by the choir on the steps of the church.
