The new version of the Subaru Levorg, called Layback, will offer a twenty-centimeter ground clearance and light cladding all around. Under the hood is an eighteen-seat car, all-wheel drive is a matter of course. However, it probably won’t get a look outside of Japan.
The Japanese offer of the Subaru brand is expanding with a new raised station wagon. It’s called the Levorg Layback, and with a length of 477 cm, it fits between a smaller crosstrek and a large, luxurious outback. In accordance with its focus, we also see plastic edges of the mudguards or thresholds and the lower edges of the bumpers.
However, Subaru doesn’t do anything just to make it look a certain way, so the layback also has a decent ground clearance of 20 cm. Under the hood is a flat 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine that, thanks to turbocharging, produces 177 horsepower and 300 Nm, directed to all wheels through a continuously variable transmission.
The interior will offer two-tone upholstery, which, depending on the equipment, will be fabric or leather. An interesting addition is the orange stitching on the steering wheel and dashboard, the car can have a sunroof and heated rear seats. There are also USB-A and USB-C charging ports for both rows of seats.
In terms of displays, the car can be equipped with a 12.3″ digital instrument panel and an 11.6″ central infotainment screen. There is also ambient lighting, a Harman Kardon audio system or a package of driving assistants and Eyesight X monitors. The trunk has a volume of 561 liters before the rear backrests are folded down.
The automaker offers various accessories directly to the car to slightly change the appearance, such as a different radiator grille, door sill extensions with chrome strips, painted fender edges or painted panels on the corners of the front bumper, which also offer an additional pair of lights for daytime running lights.
The price list is not yet available, and it is not even certain whether the Levorg Layback will be sold only in Japan, or if it will also go to other markets. However, it is not very likely, because the levorg as a model is only sold in Japan. It is available in Australia as the WRX Sportswagon.
