Interesting technical changes
Model-exclusive shocks, 25mm raised ground clearance and skid plates allow the Forester Wilderness to tackle slightly more extreme trails. This engine is still mated to a continuously variable transmission (CVT), but the rear differential ratio drops from 3.70: 1 to 4.11: 1. According to the manufacturer, this allows the Forester Wilderness to produce more torque at low revs to help it overcome obstacles better.
Twice the towing capacity
But the most interesting thing about this Mountain Forester is a marked improvement in its towing capacity, from 680 kilos (1,500 pounds) to 1,360 kilos (3,000 pounds) thanks to the addition of ‘a transmission cooler. Subaru also took the opportunity to overhaul the engine cooling system to be more resistant to towing requirements. A sensor measuring the temperature of the rear differential oil as well as a trailer stability assistance system are also standard.
