The Subaru Crosstrek is the new generation of Subaru XV and will also arrive in Italy around June of 2023. It has already been available in the United States for a few months and now, at the New York Motor Show, a new variant called is making its debut Wilderness. The latter is distinguished by a greater off-road character and goes alongside the Forster and Outback Wilderness on the American market, which is the main one for the Japanese manufacturer.
Aesthetically, the Subaru Crosstrek Wilderness it is distinguished by the coatings in raw black plastic present on the wheel arches, front bumper and rear fascia, the latter, among other things, has the lettering “Subaru” embossed that extends to the full width. In addition, there is also a metal plate to protect the boxer engine, LED fog lights with a hexagonal design, an anti-glare matte black decal on the bonnet, Wilderness badges on the doors and tailgate and a ladder rack with a load capacity of 80 kg on the road and 318 kg in a static position, therefore suitable for large roof tents.
Ma la Subaru Crosstrek Wilderness it’s not just aesthetics: the manufacturer has improved the off-road qualities of the car, increasing the ground clearance to 240 mm, obtained with more extended springs and shock absorbers, as well as all-terrain Yokohama Geolandar tires mounted on 17-inch rims. The entry and exit angles have also been improved by about 2 degrees.
The engine of the Subaru Crosstrek Wilderness for the American market it is the 2.5-litre 4-cylinder boxer that delivers 182 HP and 239 Nm of torque, however, to improve responsiveness, the engineers have shortened the final drive (4.111:1 against 3.7) of the Lineartronic automatic gearbox cvt. According to Subaru these changes improve the crossover’s climbing ability, while the addition of a larger oil cooler has improved the car’s towing capacity to 1,588 kg.
Inside the Subaru Crosstrek Wilderness Functional changes have been made with StarTex water-resistant upholstery, standard all-weather floor mats, and a removable, waterproof rear cargo tray. The standard equipment includes keyless entry, heated seats and windscreen and LED lights. For $2,270 (€2,064) more you get an optional package that includes an electric sunroof, electric driver’s seat and Harman Kardon sound.
