Subaru BRZ 2022, 231 HP driving pleasure – Auto World

Same spirit, new style and more power. This is the recipe for the new one Subaru BRZ, the second generation of the Japanese sports coupe which was finally unveiled after the teasers that anticipated the shapes circulated in recent weeks. The new BRZ features an improved chassis, new naturally aspirated engine and the same focus on performance as the previous generation. The arrival by road is scheduled for the autumn of 2021 or at the latest the first months of 2022 in the United States while in Europe there is currently no commercialization planned.

Subaru BRZ, there is no future in Europe

Subaru has kept the naturally aspirated petrol engine with 4 opposing cylinders: it is a 2.4-liter capable of delivering 231 hp at 7,000 rpm and 250 Nm of torque, thus increasing the specification of the engine which in the previous generation stood at 200 hp and 205 Nm of torque, which is 15% more than the previous model. The new Subaru BRZ thus has an even lower center of gravity. You can choose between a six-speed manual transmission or a six-speed automatic transmission that features a new Sport mode for faster downshifts.

The exterior style is always that of a sports coupe, with the length that it only increases by 3 cm, measuring in this case 426 cm. Compared to the past the new Subaru BRZ presents a more rounded bonnet, with brand new air intakes behind the front wheel arches that flow into a pronounced overhang in the lower part of the door. At the rear, the spoiler has larger dimensions than the first generation of BRZ, with more compact headlights. Finally, Subaru has also thought of a new position for the license plate, now housed in the fascia and no longer in the tailgate.

Subaru claims the new BRZ is the lightest 2 + 2 production sports car in the US market, with an estimated weight of just under 2,900 lbs (1,315 kg). A result made possible thanks to the use of aluminum for the roof, the front fenders and the hood. The frame has been reinforced to the point that it now offers 50% higher torsional stiffness, thanks to a new frame mounting system, subframe architecture and other connection points. However, the new BRZ keeps an eye on daily comfort, offering enough space even in the cargo area.
