The effectiveness of the diplomatic actions of the President of the Republic, Faure Essozimna Gnassingbé, still makes him a key player in strengthening integration and stability in the ECOWAS region and in Africa. It is for good reason that the Head of State received this November 5, 2024, the Nigerian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, President of the Council of Ministers of the Economic Community of West African States ( ECOWAS).
This meeting, which comes as a prelude to the next ordinary Summit of the Conference of Heads of State and Government of ECOWAS, mainly focused on the political and security situation in the West African sub-region.
The President of the ECOWAS Council of Ministers took the opportunity to congratulate the Togolese Head of State for his active diplomacy through his mediation with the Alliance of Sahel States (AES) and his commitment to consolidation peace and stability in the community space.
« President Faure Gnassingbé is one of the leaders of the region who plays a very crucial role in mediation regarding the AES countries. And his role has proven to be very effective. We always consult the Togolese President for his advice on regional community integration and challenges, specifically the fight against terrorism said Monsieur Yusuf Maitama Tuggar.
The Nigerian Minister of Foreign Affairs also discussed bilateral cooperation with the Head of State.
The partnership between Nigeria and Togo, founding members of ECOWAS, is based on several treaties and friendship agreements in diplomatic, economic, security, transport, mutual assistance and energy matters.
