After a report came in that an illegal rave would take place in a marl quarry, the police closed the roads to and from Kanne with fences and cars, reports The Importance of Limburg. “Everything is calm for now. Drones and a helicopter have also been used for the check,” said acting mayor Christian Bamps (CD&V). “The police also keep an eye on everything on the Albert Canal. A dozen people were checked and they left afterwards. In Bassenge (Bitsingen) across the language border, the police also carry out checks. In Kanne, the police will be on standby for a few more hours, because once the police leave, people could still turn up.”
Chief of Police Dirk Claes of the Bilzen-Hoeselt-Riemst police added that all marl quarries on the territory of Riemst are hermetically sealed. Due to the rumors about the rave party in a marl quarry on the territory of Lanaye (Ternaaien), the capacity of the police was immediately scaled up.
“The scenario for tackling such an illegal rave was of course ready,” says Claes. “Years ago we were able to shut down a rave party with several hundred people in the marl quarry.”
