Suarez hits 3 homers as D-backs rout Nationals 17-0

PHOENIX (AP) — Eugenio Suarez hit three homers and tied his career high with five hits as the Arizona Diamondbacks tied a franchise record with 22 hits in a 17-0 victory over the Washington Nationals on Tuesday.

The Diamondbacks outscored the Nationals 24-0 from the seventh inning of Monday’s game, the first time Arizona has won since 2011 after trailing by four runs in a ninth inning or later. The Diamondbacks have won six of seven.

Suarez hit two runs off Patrick Corbin in the first, then had a solo homer in the sixth off Eduardo Salazar and his third came in the seventh off Joan Adon. He finished 4-for-6, with an RBI single.

It was the second game for the 33-year-old Suarez with three homers. He did it on Sept. 5, 2020, in Cincinnati’s game against Pittsburgh. He also became the second Arizona player with 10 homers in July behind only Jason Kubel’s 11 in 2012.

For the Nationals, Colombian Harold Ramirez went 0-for-4. Venezuelans Juan Yepez went 0-for-4 and Keibert Ruiz went 0-for-3.

For the Diamondbacks, Dominicans Ketel Marte 2-for-3 with one run scored and one RBI, Geraldo Perdomo 3-for-5 with two runs scored and two RBIs. Venezuelans Gabriel Moreno 2-for-3 with two runs scored and three RBIs, Eugenio Suárez 4-for-6 with four runs scored and five RBIs. Cuban Lourdes Gurriel Jr. 1-for-3 with one run scored and one RBI.
