It will be a short night for the seven runners, indeed a very long one: “A race like this is one of the most beautiful Christmas experiences ever, it binds us together”, says Norbert Wastian. Ahead of him and his sports friends Tom Wagner, Stefan Mooswalder, Tom Mandl, Heinz Rucker, Christoph Zechner and Manfred Roschenk are 117 kilometers. From Zeltweg – where punch, mulled wine and biscuits were sold for a good cause in front of the “Lebensarten” shop – you cycle through Leoben, Bruck and Frohnleiten along the Murradweg to Graz. The seven-strong Murtal team should arrive there in the morning.
A bus accompanies the runners, who share the route. “Three or four of us are always on track. The weather is good today, it should stay dry,” Wastian said happily. Naturally, the runners have to endure thick fog and temperatures around zero degrees. But they’re used to it: In 2018 Wastian organized a run for the first time for a good cause with the “Business Run” team at the Red Bull Ring. At that time, the donations were then “continuously” brought to the Ö- 3 Christmas miracle in St. Pölten . “We’ve been on the road for more than 24 hours, everyone has covered at least 90 kilometers,” recalls Wastian. Whether black ice, rain, cold or snow: “We have experienced everything”. In 2019 she went to Villach, this year she will go to the Kleine Zeitung in Graz.
Help for Emilia
There, on Gadollaplatz, friends of the race handed over a donation to the Kleine Zeitung charity, ‘Styrians help Styrians’ on 23 December. The money will benefit the family of 14-year-old Emily from Lobmingtal. As reported, the girl suffers from a congenital genetic defect and is physically and mentally impaired. The family of five cannot handle an urgent bathroom renovation costing around 24,000 euros on their own, “Styrians help Styrians” wants to help them.
1,500 euros will come from the business run team, collected a few weeks ago on the occasion of a charity race at the Red Bull Ring. Part of the donations raised also goes to the “Wings for Life” foundation. Along the way, the seven runners stopped at various restaurants, where donations were also collected.
Would you also like to support Emily and her family and make a little Christmas miracle possible?
If allocated donations are received as part of this donation appeal, they will be used insofar as the person concerned needs help. Income that exceeds this will be used for other aid projects.
