According to the statistics, anyone who works in Styria earns an average of 33,664 euros gross per year – in a comparison of the federal states, Styria is slightly above the Austrian average at 74 euros. The highest incomes are achieved in Lower Austria, the lowest in Tyrol.
Income rises faster than inflation
The disposable household income per capita in Styria can be calculated at 23,900 euros. Compared to the year 2000, this is an increase of 67 percent, while according to statistics, the price increase in the same period was just under 43 percent – so incomes actually rose.
The highest gross income is in the Graz-Umgebung district, followed by Bruck-Mürzzuschlag, the lowest incomes are recorded in the Liezen, Southeast Styria and Weiz districts.
Income gap between women and men widened further
As far as the pay of women and men is concerned, it can be seen that the gender-specific income gap or the so-called “gender pay gap” increased in 2019 compared to 2018: Thus, men earned 59.3 percent more gross per capita in 2019 than Women. With this percentage difference between women’s and men’s earnings, Styria is above the Austria-wide value of 51.7 percent.
