Styrian FPÖ party conference: Kunasek re-elected with 96.6 percent

Graz, May 14, 2022 | At the 35th state party conference of the Styrian FPÖ on Saturday in Graz, Mario Kunasek was confirmed as party leader with 96.6 percent of the votes. The aim is to be represented in the state government again, said the 45-year-old. Kunasek has been party chairman since 2015, it was his fourth election. The last party conference took place three years ago, one day after the Ibiza video became known, when it received 99.6 percent of the votes.

Kunasek demanded the withdrawal of Governor Hermann Schützenhöfer (ÖVP). Someone who “thinks that unvaccinated people are shabby, who thinks that some people have to be fortunate when they get vaccinated, is in fact unsustainable anyway and should be replaced.”

state government as a goal

Mario Kunasek also emphasized the intensive work at state level: “We are clearly at the top of the state parliamentary groups and are anything but a monothematic party. That’s a good thing, after all, we continue to claim to be involved in governing and to change Styria positively,” emphasized Kunasek.

The FPÖ Styria have proven that they are not only “an excellent opposition party, but can also govern. Without our tireless commitment as a control party in the Styrian state parliament, there would be no serious political debate on state political issues. Our goal was, is and remains to enter the state government.”

Kickl criticizes the federal government

FPÖ Federal Party Chairman Herbert Kickl also highlighted the achievements of the Freedom Party in Styria in recent years. Kickl criticized the approach of the turquoise-green federal government in several areas. In his eyes, the government does not put out fires, but pours gasoline on the fire. Kickl cited the corona measures, the wave of inflation and the “climate madness chaired by eco-governess Leonore Gewessler” as examples of this.
