Wiesbaden (dpa / lsw) – The volleyball players of the MTV Allianz Stuttgart have won the DVV Cup for the fourth time after 2011, 2015 and 2017. In the rescheduled final in Wiesbaden’s sports hall on Platz der Deutschen Unity, they clearly defeated Dresdner SC 3-0 sets on Sunday (25:17, 25:15, 25:15). The women from Stuttgart have the first title on the way to the triple they are aiming for.
In front of 1,400 spectators, Simone Lee (20 points) and Krystal Rivers (16) were the outstanding attackers of MTV, who are well ahead in the Bundesliga and have another chance to win the CEV Cup on Tuesday. Here the first final duel with Eczacibasi Dynavit Istanbul was lost with 1:3 sets.
For Dresden coach Alexander Waibl it was the first defeat against his former club in an important final. The women from Dresden had started the game with a handicap. Due to a number of corona infections in the team and in the coaching team, you had to cancel the final in Mannheim, which was originally planned for March 6th. After a forced three-week break, the DSC women were only able to train fully again at the beginning of the week and made their comeback to the competition on Wednesday with a 3-1 victory in Straubing.
